Based in Pemba, the team works hand-in-hand with our farmers to ensure that they are producing the highest quality salt. The diverse team is made up of our project and program managers, three field officers, and farm coordinator. Together, they represent all the values of The Swahili Coast Salt Company and share a deep commitment to empowering and ensuring the health of the communities of Pemba and Zanzibar… one pinch of salt at a time.
At SCSC we work alongside artisan salt farmers. The farmers use traditional solar evaporation techniques perfected over the years to produce salt that is specific to the island of Pemba. Our collaboration began in 2018, with 10 farms across the island.

Our HQ in Unguja is where the ZALT magic happens. It is here that our skilful, Team Zalt crew, hand grade and sort every grain of salt. All our locally sourced fresh fruits and vegetables are dehydrated here in-house to create our all natural blends. We prepare and package all of our products by hand. This is what make every pinch of ZALT so amazing.

Leaving the big corporate world in Portugal, Kika first came to Tanzania in 2015 on a short teaching job. She fell in love with Zanzibar and moved here in 2017. She worked in the tourism sector for several years, now decided to change and venture into the world of ZALT. Kika’s passion is the ocean and of course the salt that comes with it. She wants to show the world what Zanzibar is capable of.
